My plans last week for my yearly Saratoga trip were derailed by my first bout with COVID. While I’m feeling much better now, the first few days of COVID were the sickest I’ve ever felt. Much to my wife’s chagrin, I was also pretty devestated about missing my trip and I was not a great person to be stuck in the house with all weekend. To top it off, it was also not a great handicapping weekend. To be honest, it was probably one of the worst gambling weekends I’ve ever had. I was not in the right headspace and while I had saved up a nice sized bankroll for the week to be on track, I probably should have scaled back heavily when I knew I was on complete life tilt. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much else for me to do this weekend but play the horses so the bloodbath was on.
Nothing really particularly stood out on this epic downswing. I went 4/5 on a few pick 5s, missed a few big doubles, and didn’t cash much but a few win bets. By Saturday, I could tell I was just pressing and chasing but I kept on going. I was hoping I was going to be able to write a “Sure I got COVID But Check Out This Score!” blog post today, but instead I’m licking my wounds and dreading returning to work on Tuesday.
I’m on the mend now and have a few days to recover before Travers’ weekend and will hopefully head into this week with a clearer mind and healed body. My bankroll, on the other hand, will be feeling the effects of this weekend for a bit. Which brings me to my question: has anything non-gambling related ever put you on a monster tilt session?
