When Keeneland launched their All Turf P3 a couple of years ago, they created one of the most player friendly wager types offered anywhere. For those unfamiliar, the wager covers the last three turf races on any given racing day at Keeneland with a $3 base wager, player friendly 15% takeout, and as of yet has avoided the attention of the CAW crowd. This wager has been very approachable even for those with limited bankroll and has seen some truly massive payouts. With all that said, here is my approach to the Saturday October 20th rendition:
Edit – Picks now updated for scratches.
Race #4 – I was most interested in #2 Oeuvre who has won three in a row and #3 Sweet Dani Girl who gets some class relief and adds the white-hot Louis Saez. I had a hard time drawing lines between those two and will use them equally with the hope that field size creates value. The morning line favorite #9 Viareggio scratching out hurts value as I wanted to play against, but staying alive is key.
Race #8 – #9 Haughty is your lukewarm morning line favorite in this stacked allowance race where she gets some class relief and adds Lasix for the first time. Although Chad Brown has been on fire this meet, and Gaff has been riding well; her best races are simply slower than other in here and she has been very camera shy this year. I’m most interested in #3 Not So Close finding herself lone speed again, so a repeat performance of that last out Saratoga race could very well be in the cards. I’ll also use a little #7 Sinfiltre and #8 Sister Lou Ann although I think they are a bit more trip/pace dependent here.
Race #10 – I once again find myself against the favorite in #11 Fauci who hasn’t won in over two years and finds himself up in class after just missing twice at Saratoga. Maybe the Lasix moves him forward, but he feels like the type who has lost that killer instinct after not finding the winners circle in over two years. My top choices are #5 Axthelm and #8 Counterstrike who both come into this with form cycles that imply this may have been a target race for both. I’ll also have a little money going through #1 Willtorun and #3 Zoombie, with the former getting a barn change to Amoss who is having a stellar meet and does well first off the claim as well as Zombie who has never tried turf but has a TON of early speed and gets Machado up who is having an amazing meet with some chemistry for this barn.
Plays as follows:
$6 – 2,3,/3/5,8 – $24
$3 – 2,3,/7,8/5,8 – $24
$3 – 2,3,/3/1,3 – $12
$3 – 2,3/7,8/1,3 – $24
