Saratoga One a Days – 8/25

Caleb had a winner and Josh had a place horse yesterday. Hopefully we can keep this momentum and beat Mark who’s fallen back to 2nd place.

Race 8 – #8 Lullaby Land: I actually view Anatolian as the horse to beat in this turf marathon. However, the price is likely to be shorter than I want in a race where I feel the horses are all evenly matched. Instead, I’m going with Lullaby Land. This mare actually finished just behind Anatolian a few starts ago. It may appear she barely won against much weaker company last out, but she was visually tons the best in that race, having a troubled beginning and then getting forced extremely wide while finishing in a rush. There appears to be no pace in here on paper, which may compromise her chances, but I’m willing to trust Jose Ortiz to work out a trip and get her involved early enough to keep her in the race.

Race 7 – #8 Ontheonesandtwos: Norm Casse’s barn has quietly been having a freakishly good meet, winning at a 50% clip with a $5.61 ROI and an almost $12 average payout, so this isn’t just one bomb. This filly cashed a lot of checks in the Midwest and was off for almost a year before returning to Saratoga at the end of July. She ran like a horse that needed one in the last, was on the pace and faded late but was never really asked in that effort. She returns here and gets the cutback that the last race seems to imply she wants. Casse also happens to be stellar with this type, winning at 43% 2nd off the long layoff and legging up Santana who he is 71% with an $8.01 ROI over the last two years. Feels like this was the target race all along and this one should be primed to run huge.

Josh @CherryDrank

Race 5 – #8 Major Blue: Prototypical “Need the Lead” type horse whose two wins came going wire to wire. Bris has it listed as a Lone E type in this race and Optix has it as a lone Q1 square. Doesn’t look like he’ll get too much pressure upfront unless Rosario does Rosario things, but if he breaks up front, I think he will be tough to beat here.
