Mark picked up a $6 place horse on Sunday with his bonus pick from a cancelled race. He’s closed the gap on Josh and Caleb and we should have an exciting finish to the meet even if we are just stumbling home.

Race 3 – #1/1A Mid Day Image/Cazadero: I think both halves of this entry (assuming turf) merit consideration in this spot. Mid day image cuts back to a sprint after finding routing too demanding last out. He should be forward and inside with the rails down. Cazadero did well to close into a modest pace last out and should be running on late if Mid day image gets hooked up front. The Jacobson barn has been getting hot at the right time.

Race 7 – #3 Burning Bright: Tell me if you’ve heard this story before: Luis Saez on lone speed in a New York turf route wires the field. Both Optix and Timeform have the #3 lone on the lead and Optix has it designated as a slow pace and low contention. Saez is probably the most dangerous jockey when loose om the lead and the #3’s best TFUS figure was run here at Saratoga, albeit at a shorter trip. Our good friend Matthew Desantis had a great stat about the favorite in this race:

Race 6 – #6 Skyler’s Starship: With only 11 days left on the meet, I’m going to need a massive push to put up a respectable total while chasing down both Josh and Caleb. Skyler’s Starship lost all hope on debut when he broke slowly and got hung wide but kept on and ran a respectable 4th. Since, he’s been training forwardly with a couple of nice moves across the main and it’s interesting to see Castellano stick here versus the Morley entry. Terranova is a trainer whose new stock often needs a start, with his first-time starters over the past 5 years winning at 8% but firing 25% second time out with a positive ROI. Thinking this one wanted dirt all along given the pedigree, but he was using that turf race as a paid gate work to build some speed, with this being the target.
