A lot of zeroes lately, but shout out to Mark for picking a 3/5 winner yesterday!

Race 3 – #2 Georgees Spirit: While I do respect Mark’s selection here, I’m going to go in a different direction. Georgees Spirit broke her maiden over this trip at Saratoga last year over a very heavy turf course. She has since been rather ambitiously placed, entered in longer distance and stakes races where she hasn’t been quite as effective. I thought she looked like a runner who needed the race last out coming off of the layoff, and now she gets back to her preferred trip. She is also reunited with the pilot who was aboard for the lone win, as Prat and Abreu are 45% (5/11) the last 90 days when teaming up. I think she takes a step forward here and gets the win.

Race 9 – #10 Defining Purpose: The winner of the Indiana Oaks steps up in class here, but on the Optix plot she looks like the speed of the speed. She is a Q1 Square above the par line and while the notes say her two recent wins were perfect trips, I think there’s a chance she gets that same trip here. McPeek has had a few lives ones here at the meet and his horses tend to run better 2nd off the layoff. This is Brian Hernandez’s only mount of the card and I think she’s very live.

Race 3 – #4 Numero Seis: Although last out Ellis runners have not faired well so far this meet on dirt, the turf shippers have been running just fine and I hope that creates some value in a race which has plenty of connections for people to chase. This 3-year-old daughter of Frosted broke her maiden at Saratoga, going this trip, over good going and her best race was the two-back effort at Churchill which again came over good going. She’s also been flattered as the winner of the last Playlist came back to win a nice allowance at Saratoga. It’s common for these sprinters to get headed and give up which is what appears to have happened in the last so I would somewhat discount that figure. We’ve obviously gotten a ton of rain which should give her a little cut which she seems to appreciate, and I have a sneaky suspicion that last out race was tougher than it looks on paper.
