Race 5 – #7 Hammerin Aamer: As Josh and Mark slowly chip away at my lead, I figure it’s time to embrace NYRA and it’s chalkiness and take low priced horse who I feel is quite likely to win. Hammerin Aamer was claimed last out by Robert Falcone Jr for $20k, and now returns for a $12.5k tag. That may alarm some folks, but Falcone is an astounding 47% (9/19) the last three years when dropping a horse after a claim. While Aamer has not historically had success at Saratoga, I attribute that more towards the fact that he is a true miler and Saratoga has not held one mile races until very recently. With Irad up, this horse seems to mean business against a field that lacks any true monsters.

Race 9 – #6 Up Her Sleeve: Optix shows this horse as lone speed and was stuck in weather delay last out. Hoping for some improvement on the stretch out and with the rails out speed should be ok on the inner turf. Levine is 2 for 6 to start the meet so this one could be live at 12/1 ML.

Race 3 – #1 Crowding Out: Crowding Out has only won two races in her twelve-race career, but both were at Saratoga going this exact trip. Some horses just really love this configuration and I wonder if she could be one of those. The last two were way too far where she did her thing but couldn’t hold on, but gets the cutback to her preferred distance here. She draws the rail and the bug with a big weight break goes up, so you would have to assume intentions are clear and they want the lead. I have a feeling after that, this 5-year-old daughter of Street Boss might get very brave on the front end.
