Race 6 – #11 Autumn: It’s always dangerous to chase a bias from one day to the next, especially at a track like Saratoga where the weather is unpredictable. Nevertheless, this week has shown a marked shift in track profile towards favoring frontrunners on both dirt and turf. With that in mind, I like #11 Autumn to wire this field on Saturday. This filly had a troubled debut where she clipped heels and fell in the stretch. She was relatively well supported that day, getting sent off at odds of 4-1. She returned at Belmont last out and simply went far too fast up front to win, setting blistering fractions in a race that somewhat fell apart. That has proven to be a strong race, with five next-out winners. She now attempts to stretch her speed out to two turns, a distance that she should be well suited for given her stamina-heavy pedigree. With speed seeming to hold better on the turf this week and a lack of a true pacesetter, I think Autumn has a strong chance to inherit a good trip and get the win.

Race 4 – #3 Mooney Money: Everyone is talking about the red-hot Linda Rice barn, but this horse has a very classic Linda angle. Linda is 24% first off the claim and in 36 starts she is 44% first off the claim in maiden claiming on dirt. The #6 Party at Grants also fits this stat, but she’s shipping in from Kentucky and those shippers have not done well to start the meet. I think the #3 will have a pace advantage being forwardly placed, plots out well in Optix, and will be the longer price of the two.

Race 9 – #2 You Gotta Have Fun: I love playing “why are you here” in races as big successful barns like Mike Maker got to be that way by placing horses in appropriate spots. This horse has a pedigree that screams turf top and bottom, handily broke her maiden on dirt at Belterra before getting rained off the green stuff and showing a ton of fight in that 2nd start at Mountaineer. She now moves into a world class turf barn in Mike Maker, he ships her to the deep end of the pool to race at Saratoga and legs up a phenomenal jock in Louis Saez. Turf speed doesn’t always equate to dirt speed and the Maker barn has been a touch cold, but I expect her to be forwardly placed and handle the stretch out. If she takes to turf and the class test isn’t too much, she should be a massive player at a nice price.
