After yesterday’s disappointing off the turf performance, we come back today with a few stakes and turf racing. Mark was able to get on the board with a place horse yesterday and Josh added to his total with a chalky place horse as well.

Race 11 – #11 American Know How – I mentioned on my Thursday post how much I love chasing angles, and for today, I have my favorite one at Saratoga. When Tom Morley and Javier Castellano hook up, good things happen, especially at Saratoga. Over the past 5 years, Tom has legged up JJ to produce a 35% win rate and a $3.85 ROI at the Spa. Dirty form will create value today as the first two were rained off and last out he hit the inner rail at the half pole and was wrapped up early by T-Mac last out. Jockey switch to JJ means all systems go for this son of AP and I expect him to be handled aggressively by the hall of famer.

Race 3 – #7 Heavenly Appointed – One of my favorite angles in racing is betting a horse who was against the flow of the race last out. Heavenly Appointment exits a race at Delaware Park where the horses sitting first, second, and third at the first call ended up finishing in first, third, and fourth. Heavenly Appointed was the only horse to make up any ground at all in a race that featured a very slow pace where frontrunners dominated up front. She also displayed some greenness in that race, lugging in late and possibly costing herself the win. Motion’s barn has been on fire lately, hitting at 25% over the last month, so it’s encouraging to see him think highly enough of this filly to ship her to Saratoga to run in this tougher spot.

Race 5 – #3 On The Hill – Am I reacting to Mark calling me a chalk eating weasel based on my picks from the first two days? Perhaps… but I really do like the #3 On The Hill in this 6 furlong sprint. The last three replays for On The Hill show a little bit of trouble in each start. Gets back to a trip and track he won at last year where he posted a career best 94 Brisnet figure. Luis Saez, who rode him in his two Saratoga starts last year, gets back aboard and can hopefully keep the 3 a little closer to pace than his last few starts.
